Design of Ring and Mesh based WDM Transport Networks

چکیده
The advent of reconfigurable nodal elements, such as Optical Add/Drop Multiplexers (OADM) and CrossConnects (OXC) for Wavelength Division Multiplexed (WDM) networks, has led to a myriad of possible network architectures for the optical layer. In this paper we describe different architectures for resilient ring and mesh based WDM networks, and compare these architectures from a conceptual viewpoint. The network design process is heavily influenced by the choice of the network architecture, because the different architectures have very distinct design issues. We describe the different design issues for mesh and ring based networks and give an overview of possible solution methods for the specific design problems. Some of this theory is put in practice in a case study, considering the design of realistic networks based on different network architectures. The results of this case study confirm the conceptual statements that we made. © 2000 SPIE/Baltzer Science Publishers 1388 6916/2000 $15.00 Docu-Arijs 12-07-2000 22:17 Pagina 25

Significant Impact of P-cycles on Survivable WDM Optical Network
It is known that Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technique enables single fiber to carry huge amount of data but optical WDM networks are prone to failures, therefore survivability is a very important requirement in the design of optical networks. In this paper, a comprehensive review about survivability of WDM networks has been discussed focusing on scalable and efficient p-cycles resil...
متن کاملA Comparative Study of Mesh and Multi-ring Designs for Survivable WDM Networks
In this paper, two distinct optical network design approaches, namely mesh and multi-ring, for survivable WDM networks are investigated. The main objective is to compare these two design approaches in terms of network costs so that their merits in practical environments can be identified. In the mesh network design, a new mathematical model based on integer liner programming (ILP) and a heurist...
متن کاملNovel Four-Channel All Optical Demultiplexer Based on Square PhCRR for Using WDM Applications
Ring resonators have always been referred to as a highly flexible structurefor designing optical devices. In this study, we have designed and simulation a fourchannel optical demultiplexer using square photonic crystal ring resonator. The squarelattice constant for this purpose structure is used. The purposed structure has an averagecrosstalk, transmission coefficient, q...
متن کاملA Lagrangian-based heuristic for traffic grooming in WDM optical networks
Traffic Grooming Problem (TGP) deals with efficiently combining low-speed traffic streams into high-capacity wavelength channels in order to improve bandwidth utilization and minimize network cost. In this paper, we investigate TGP in WDM optical networks regardless of underlying physical topology. The problem is formulated as an integer linear program (ILP) and a Lagrangian-based heuristic pro...
متن کاملOptimal Mesh Routing in Four-Fibre WDM Rings
Introduction Optical ring networks will form the next step in the rollout of WDM in the telecommunications industry. Since it is important for network planning and design to know the wavelength requirements for different traffic patterns, this Letter describes the calculation of this quantity, assuming full mesh interconnection of every node in a four-fibre ring. There are N nodes in a ring, nu...
